Spring Break: Back “Home”

March 20, 2024

Recently, I flew out to the Bay for Spring Break to see my brother. One evening, he took me to the Marin Headlands to watch the sunset. We were originally planning to hike up a random hill, but on the way, we noticed an abandoned building that turned out to be a historic military site. I completely forgot the specific details about it, but we explored every corner, walking through the empty rooms and along the worn concrete paths. The whole time, I kept thinking about Mom and how much she would have loved learning the history behind it all since she was such a war and military enthusiast.

On a whim, we climbed up to the roof and decided it was the perfect place to watch the sunset. The ocean stretched out endlessly, and the sky slowly shifted into shades of pink, orange, and gold. The wind was strong, the waves were loud, and everything about the moment felt powerful. It was stunning and deeply emotional at the same time. The sunset, the ocean, and the quiet stillness all reminded me of her, making it the most beautiful and heartfelt experience of the trip.

Until then,

Katie
